You do not each need to hire an attorney for a divorce or related matter in order to have your rights protected as long as you are willing to have your spouse or other party hear the same thing you are hearing. If you are each represented by an attorney, each of you is likely to hear the same thing anyway, except that each of you will develop a "negotiation strategy," to try and hide the truth and in the end only waste time and money until one of two things happens: one of you gives up your position or, as happens in most case, each of you compromises and meets in the middle. Instead, skip the dance and get to the beginning of the end now. If each of you saves the money you would spend on this "dance", you each have more to negotiate with, and the way to save the money is to be straightforward and equally informed from the beginning. Not only is this less expensive, but you and your children, will also retain your dignity and suffer less psychologically and emotionally.
