Why does anyone choose a method other than mediation?If mediation is so beneficial, why does anyone choose a method other than mediation? Some people do not know that they have the option to mediate at all. Others believe they can mediate only certain issues, like the custody of their children, and do not know they can mediate any and all issues. Others are convinced by lawyers that the traditional litigation or court model is better. For some, mediation simply will not work. Mostly, however, the only thing that is necessary is agreement by the parties to try mediation. Therefore, if you have an “opponent” that is willing to mediate, you most likely can both save time, save money, save the relationship between you and the other party and retain your civility and peace of mind; worst case scenario is that you will go to court anyway.
